“The in-office portion of the peel is rather quick. Once the face is cleansed and ready, the actual peel is applied. You are given a fan for cooling (and believe me, it will be your best friend) and the peel is applied in layers. With each pass the peel becomes a bit more spicy…thank goodness for that fan! Some deep breaths are needed during those last few passes. My eyes may have watered a bit as well, BUT it was over just as quick as it began! The whole process lasted maybe five minutes. Leaving the office, I just felt a little flushed (similar to a sunburn) and a little shiny. On my latest peel, I went out and met a friend for dinner that night so it’s not something that will keep you out of commission for days.”
“The at-home portion is a retinol crème you will apply. It’s not painful, just a crème. As instructed, I kept out of the sun, stayed away from high heat, and avoided sweating (a few days off from exercising wasn’t too bad) No makeup was the hardest part for me! I had no peeling the first day and my skin just looked a little sun-kissed.”
“Day 2 really wasn’t bad either, I was beginning to think I would get away without peeling! Then day 3 rolled in. I woke up with a little peeling around my nose and mouth area- still not too bad. As the day went on it began to spread. My face began to really shed! Nose area, lips, chin. I definitely didn’t want to walk around in public. I wouldn’t call it itching, but I could feel the skin peeling. It had almost a tickle to it.”
“Day 4 I had to go to work and still was peeling (still no makeup). The peeling was beginning to more away from the center of my face and start to hit my cheeks and forehead. It wasn’t painful, still just that annoying little tickle sensation. Little grooming scissors were my new best friend to keep the skin peels short (and so I wouldn’t pick at the skin).”
“By day 5 things were still peeling, but I could see the end in sight. The skin emerging was so incredibly soft and felt like baby skin! It wasn’t heavy flaking and peeling except for the edges of my face. I still kept away from makeup as advised but my skin looked so smooth and fresh that I didn’t mind going without.
Day 6 I started back with just the slightest coverage makeup and things were pretty much done for me. Slight peeling in my hairline was all that was left. After Day 7 I went back to my normal regimen. The texture and tone of my skin was the best it has been in years! I deal with scarring (texture) and uneven tone, and both of those things were noticeably different!! The fine lines were almost gone as well and that was definitely a bonus for me!”
What is the prep like for the 3 Step Peel?
“Proper skin prep is required! A strong retinol regimen is necessary before the ZO 3 step peel. You want at least 6-8 weeks of a fairly high dose retinol regimen for you skin to be ready. If the proper prep isn’t performed you will blister and burn, but with proper prep there was no blisters and burns. I won’t say the peel is a walk in the park, but the results are incredible! The 5 minutes of spicy, burning and a few days of flaking skin is really not too bad for fresh new skin.”
